A slightly more reductive view on society and human nature than Le Guin’s other work, I found The Left Hand of Darkness less nuanced than The Dispossessed.
Her view of gender is antiquated now, it determines whether societies go to war, controls how we act at times of the month. I think Le Guin believes men and women are more intrinsically different than most of her readers today.
Regardless the writing is beautiful, the story of friendship emphatic.
I note that the society on Winter formed as isolated as we have on Earth, and Le Guin seems to advocate strongly for conservatism, glacial progress.
