Pygmalion

George Bernard Shaw | 1913 | ★★★★★

Delightful. Shaw has a love of accents, which is a love of people. I think any person raised in the UK appreciates how fascinating it is that accents can change from one village to the next, in Pygmalion Shaw claims they change every two streets (in London)!

This passage is a particular delight:

THE FLOWER GIRL. Ow, ezz, yɘ-ooa san, is e? Wal, fewd dan y' d-ooty bawmz a mather should, eed now bettern to spawl a pore gel’s flahrzn than ran awy athaht pyin. Will ye-oo py me f’them?
