An interesting set of ideas. I agree with Bayard when he writes of the need to be have active readers more than hosts of passive but unengaged readers. I find this in my personal life too, discussing books, even when you’re talking shite for most of the time, is generally a far more interesting activity than actually reading them.
In these times of isolation should we be going against his suggestion of discussing books, and just appreciate having worlds to dive into? Or is now more of an opportunity than ever to not read books but engage with others on the ideas in them nonetheless. There’s definitely a balance somewhere, but I think we need more of an education in being active readers with ideas we believe in but are easy to change.
Finally, in true spirit of this book, I must admit I haven’t read it.
