How Buildings Learn: What Happens After They're Built

Stewart Brand | 1994 | ★★★★☆
Read: May 10, 2023

Brand’s book is more of a description of a philosophy of life, a way to live. Such books are the antipode of the self-help genre, they are grounded in the deep specifics of a subject.

‘How buildings learning shows diagrams and photography spanning centuries, and it’s strange to step back and think in terms of your choices on generations of people.

The rages against architects and their non-rectangular designs is quite funny, but the book ends poorly veering away from the study of ages of buildings into insight from his professional life.
