Half of a Yellow Sun

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie | 2006 | ★★★★☆
Read: April 17, 2022

Adichie’s is artful in painting a relaxed, cultured life descend into coping with war crimes, starvation and the abrogation of trust among people. Her writing turns from sensual and erotic, where transgressions are adultery and misplaced desire to shell-shocked images of children eating rats. That transition is slow and the heat is inched up until it feels like you’re standing in a fire.
